Youth Homelessness Matters Day 2010 - Countdown - Everyone Counts.

Hello! It's coming up to that time! Yes, it's Youth Homelessness Matters Day on the 14th April 2010. I hear there are already activities planned around the State from Ipswich, to Gold Coast and Rockhampton.

Theme:

The theme for this year is 'Countdown: Everyone Counts'. The theme 'Countdown: Everyone Counts' aims to reflect the fact that youth homelessness affects a range of young people in different circumstances and for different reasons. 'Countdown: Everyone Counts' also aims to highlight the Australian Governments current commitment to reduce homelessness as identified in "The Road Home: A National Approach to Reducing Homelessness" and that homelessness is "everyone's responsibility".

This year QYHC is calling for a Queensland Youth Homelessness Action Plan - to ensure that the unique and specific needs of young people are specifically met. Some other States already have these plans. As part of this 'call' QYHC will be holding a short film and panel discussion in Brisbane highlighting the around young people's experiences of homelessness.

We are encouraging as many of you to get involved from services to individuals!! You can discuss why your region counts and the issues that either you or young people that you know or work with are facing.

This can be as simple as a media release on the day detailing your local issues and calling for a Queensland Youth Homelessness Action Plan.

It is anticipated that the final product will be in book form with historical data, anecdotes and photos. To this end we are requesting your assistance in providing stories, photos or any other materials ie poster, postcards, campaign materials that you may have to share that we can include. All material will be acknowledged and stories attributed to the author/s.
