YOUTH SUPPORT COORDINATORS

YSC hUB FACILITATORS & NETWORK

The YSC Hub Facilitator positions assist with the development of the YSC Program.  The Hub Facilitators are employed by Queensland Youth Housing Coalition (QYHC).

There are three Hub Facilitators, who are based in Brisbane (to service South East Qld) and Townsville (to service Rural, Regional and Remote Qld).

Hub Facilitators support practice and policy development for the YSC Network, which contributes to innovative and meaningful responses to young people.  The YSC Hub Facilitators collaborative work with the YSC Network ensures continuous improvement in the delivery of high quality youth support services within the YSC Program.

The Hub Facilitators advocate strongly for and with the YSC Network on policy and program levels. Broadly, the YSC Hubs:

  • Implement professional development and training opportunities
  • Develop training resources
  • Facilitate a range of YSC peer support initiatives
  • Ensure robust input into government processes

The Hub Facilitators respect and value the work of the community sector and recognise, promote and support community based organisations as the best place to provide support services to young people.

The YSC Hub Facilitators are funded by the Department of Communities.  For more information about the YSC Hub Facilitators and the YSC Network contact a Hub Facilitator.

WHAT IS THE ySC NETWORK

The YSC Network encompasses all individual YSCs, YSC Team Leaders YSC Managers and the Hub Facilitators. The Hub Facilitators support the YSC Network in a number of ways via two major strategies; The Network Development Strategy (NDS) and the Workforce Development Strategy (WDS).

The NDS is thel communication mechanism for the YSC Network and provides opportunities for practice development and discussions. The NDS incoporates YSC working groups, email groups, moderated forum and the YSC website.

The WDS was consolidated to resource and support the YSC network, including five components: professional development needs analysis, skills audit, workforce profile, exit interviews and YSC Induction.

The culture of the Network.

The Network is built on a culture of practice development, fostering environments of sharing across the Network and a culture of accessing the expertise and knowledge of fellow workers. The Network comes together to share experiences, participate in professional development activities and collectively develop responses to issues that are impacting upon young people and their communities.

Finding work as a YSC

YSC work is challenging and exceptionally rewarding. The diversity of work across individual, group and community development work provides strong opportunity for career development. This opportunity is also supported by the multidisciplinary environment in which YSCs work.

The Funding Information Papers developed by the Department of Communities clearly states that: funds have been provided (by Department of Communities) to support employment of Youth Support Coordinators at a minimum Community Services Worker Level 5 of the Social and Community Services (Queensland) Award.

To enquire about the availability of YSC work and employment conditions please contact the relevant YSC organisation.
