Rental Reforms in Queensland

'For 13-year-old Will, not knowing when he and his mother "might get kicked out for no particular reason" has been the hardest part of renting their small unit in Parkdale.' Read more

The Queensland Government is in the final stages of preparing draft legislation. Make Renting Fair Queensland are supporting five proposed improvements to the tenancy laws. These improvements will increase stability, safety and well-being for people who rent their homes:

1. Ending tenancies fairly by removing ‘no reason’ evictions
2. Minimum health and safety standards for all rental homes
3. Making it easier for renters to have pets
4. Allowing renters to make reasonable modifications
5. Increasing protections for renters experiencing family violence

Any action will help. You can sign MRFQ online petitions and encourage colleagues and friends to do the same. For more information go to: www.makerentingfairqld.org.au

From a Brisbane Domestic Violence Prevention Advocate:

Although the ashes of this literally still linger in the air, now that a few small motes of dust have settled on the immediate information released about the mass murders of Tuesday, I find that - There is so much I want to say right now but can't. So much more expression wish I could express but can't. So much more I wish I could do but can't. So much more I wish I could feel but can't. Read More
