Help with NDIS
Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) and project partners QCOSS and ADA Australia along with the Queensland Government, are helping more eligible Queenslanders with disability join the NDIS and experience the benefits of the scheme through the Targeted Outreach Project.
|
This project is helping people with disability to understand the supports the NDIS can provide to them and access free and practical individual support to apply for and join the NDIS through regional Assessment and Referral (ART) teams
|
The project is currently operating in Maryborough, Fraser Coast, Sunshine Coast and Moreton and will be extending into 4 new locations (Rockhampton and west, Toowoomba and west, Bundaberg and Townsville) by the end of August/early September 2020.

This survey emerged from discussions between a range of agencies who are working to understand the scale of the issue with regard to responding to the needs of those without income and housing eligibility due to their residency status.

Have you heard the news from DHPW?
The Department of Housing and Public Works last week announced a number of improvements being made through Partnering for Impact and Partnering for Growth reforms – including improvements to the Homelessness Service Agreements for Specialist Homelessness Services and changes to Community Housing Policy.
|
For Homelessness Service Agreements, there are changes to reporting requirements, outcome targets, hours of operation, service catchment areas and the number of case studies to be included in quarterly reports.
|
The immediate improvements will apply to homelessness funding Q1 2020-2021 reporting due in October 2020 and were effective from 1 July 2020. More information will be released by the department soon. Until then, contact your contract officer if you have any questions. You can find the full list of changes here.

Changes to Community Housing Policies include the removal of the time limited nature of transitional housing, more flexibility for the use of surplus program funds, removal of cap on funds that can be used for tenancy support services and incorporation of the requirements of the Human Rights Act 2019.
|

LISTEN UP! Project Workshops 2020 & 2021
WWILD is seeking women who have an intellectual disability for workshops across Queensland. These two day workshops will focus on safety and rights within relationships and organisations, information about violence and skills to access safety. WWILD would like to talk to each participant prior to the workshops for a pre-group interview.

In addition to the workshops this year, WWILD are hoping to meet with participants again next year again (dates to be confirmed). These workshops are not suitable for women currently experiencing domestic violence or in crisis.

BEROS support young people (12-18 years) in the care of Moreton Region child safety (Brisbane and lower North Coast districts) who are self-placing, sleeping rough and/or couch surfing and accessing BEROS support services.

This is an opportunity to recognise the many recipients who go above and beyond the call of duty in responding to children and their families in terms of innovation and tenacity. The Art Project for 2020 is the Shine a Light on Children Arts Lantern Project by Hands on Art. Hundreds of children across Queensland have engaged in making lanterns that include their messages of safety. This project featured in the Weekender on Sunday 23rd August

Homelessness Australia and Council to Homeless Persons (Vic) launched Homelessness week earlier this month, with information and resources to support the Everybody’s Home campaign. There are heat maps that show by state and federal electorate how many people are homeless and how much social housing is needed.
